Dauphin County to Host 3rd Annual Ride to Work Day

Friday July 24th 7:30am - 12:00 noon. Free Donuts who ride to work !

Dauphin County Commissioners Jeff Haste, Nick DiFrancesco and George P. Hartwick, III invite motorcycle enthusiasts to take part in the 3rd Annual Ride to Work Day on July 24.

On Friday, hundreds of motorcycles and scooters are expected to descend upon workplaces in Harrisburg as part of Ride to Work Day, a popular annual commuting event for riders. Over the years, the event has grown to include hundreds of motorcyclists in the community who believe that riding to work en masse on a single, focused day will demonstrate the positive social, environmental and economic impact of motorcycles and scooters.

On this day, county employees who ride to work can park together beside the Courthouse, providing an excellent conversation piece for downtown workers. The day will focus on raising motorcycle awareness and safety by featuring Koup?s Cycle Shop, Susquehanna Valley Harley Davidson, Vicious Cycles, Inc., the Motorcycle Safety Program and the Pennsylvania State Police. The Commissioners will donate funds generated through a ?Favorite Bike? contest to the United Way organization, whose annual Trike Race will be taking place at the same time.

Participation in the yearly demonstration, spearheaded by Ride to Work, a non-profit advocacy group, is estimated to triple the number of riders on the road and save tens of thousands of gallons of gasoline.

?As a motorcycle rider myself, we support this event as a way to educate the public about the need to share the road with motorcycles and spotlight the power of motorcycles to save gas and reduce traffic congestion during the daily commute,? Commissioner Nick DiFrancesco said.
